Ooh I hadn’t even considered that Lanfear would be one of the three using Callandor – that could be interesting! And the idea the Verin might have been the one talking with Aviendha in the Waste? Brilliant. If that’s not the answer then something else mighty weird was going on there …

Now, why would Verin be interested in the Aiel? Let alone knowing so much about them and their ways?! Avienda mention that there was something strange about the stranger clothing yet she couldn’t tell what… I tend to think it was Lenefir, she knew the Aiel from the legend times and she also used their services as an Aie Sedai – but what is her motivation to help them? Why would she bother?
That I don’t know. Yet she did care to for so many things she shouldn’t.

I have to say I thought this book was best book of the series for a very long time. Rand was immensely cool in this book – the Rand Aes Sedai line was a tremendous moment; as was Perrin’s reunion with Mat. Not even Gawyn annoyed me that much, though I did laugh my way through your podcast as you rightly criticised him as the most disappointing character in fantasy book history.

The theory that Lanfear would be one of the people to wield callandor was inspired, I had never even considered that before you said it.

almen bunt at the rotting orchard. that was one the most enjoyable descriptions of rand from the point of view of another character ever

@Heather, in some ways I hope there is something weird going on there, it would have to be crazy weird.

@Will Mat and Perrin were great together. Astounding to think they havent been in the same place since the beginning of Book 4.

@ross I think all Rands scenes were cool. His fight was incredible, but I even liked his return to Arad Doman, his dealing with Cadsuane in the book, his visit to the White Tower was awesome.

Heh, in reference to Mat and Elayne, I thought it was hilarious when somebody (Egwene, I think), noted as Elayne left that she sounds like a stable-hand.

Thanks for the podcast, it’s always fun to listen to your views on the series.

It was somewhat love story – with all the little love stories acknowledging their “faith”.
I can’t say I didn’t feel – “Light, it’s about time”. But for some reason I don’t believe that this whole series would end in just one more book!
It’s seems that whatever happened in Avienda story line will need at the very list one more book….

I’m really interested to hear what you guys have to say about the prophecies concerning Perrin’s death. Do either of you two believe he’s gonna sacrifice his life for Rands, thus saving him for the second time? I’m really worried for the guy and just after he became awesome again! I never thought about Lanfear helping with Callandor but it makes a lot of sense. That would make it the two strongest women helping him. Interesting. I would have to vote for the “fast forward machine” used by aviendha as the best part of the book. It’s amazing that even at this point in the narrative new elements are still being added that make you question how it will all end. It’s why I love it so much.

The city may be on fire but the Band of the Red Hand are close

    • doshiamit says

Close but outside the City Wals. Caemlyn has been described as a Fortress city many times. Mats not there, does Talmanes try and save Caemlyn or does he try and get the Dragons and probably as many people as he can out?
